Brasil Ride: Abraão Azevedo goes for his 7th title with Olympic Champion Bart Brentjens

Riders will have a new challenge in the Discovery Route and first time women champions Celina Carpinteiro (POR) and Ivonne Kraft (GER) are back in Bahia

Porto Seguro, Brazil - Brasil Ride’s 7th edition is here: from 15 to 22 of October, 1500 bikers will ride in the mountains of Bahia and celebrate the rich history of mountain biking. After six years in the Chapada Diamantina, the competition will move to the Discovery Route, using the cities of Arraial d'Ajuda and Guaratinga as stopovers. Abraão Azevedo (BRA), Brasil Ride’s biggest Champion, is running for a 7th trophy. He will ride for the 4th time with Atlanta-1996 Olympic Champion Bart Brentjens (NED).

Abraão was crowned Champion in the Masters category with four different partners: Plínio Souza (BRA), Paulo Freitas (BRA) and Paulo Borges (BRA, between 2010 and 2012, and MTB legend Bart Brentjensfrom 2013 to 2016. "The new route makes the competition more exciting. Is like riding for the first time in Brasil Ride. My six titles mean nothing right now. The goal is enjoying each stage and have e great week with Bart. We learn something new every day".

Old partners - In 2010, Celina Carpinteiro (POR) and Ivonne Kraft (GER) formed the winning pair for the first women edition. After fiveeditions, the duo is together again. With Mateus Ferraz (BRA), Ivonne won four titles in the mixed competition, from 2011 to 2014. Celina only competed inBahia two years ago, with Isabel Caetano (BRA).

"The truth is that I’m motivated and in top physical shape. Partnering with my friend Ivonne in this new beginning for Brasil Ride is special. We met in the first edition and that was the year that I won my only title", Celina says. "Brasil Ride is the toughest stage race I have ever raced. Riders have to deal with personal achievements and knowing what are your physical and psychological limitations".

15/10 - Saturday: athletes kit delivery in Arraial d'Ajuda
16/10 - Sunday: Prologue in Arraial d'Ajuda (21.1 km and 318 m altitude)
17/10 - Monday - Stage 2 from Arraial d'Ajuda to Brasil Ride Camp (128 km and 2225 m altitude)
18/10 - Tuesday - Stage 3 with start and arrival at the Camp (63.5 km and 1,587 altitude)
19/10 - Wednesday - Stage 4 with start and arrival at the Camp (85.3 km and 2,963 m altitude)
20/10 - Thursday - Stage 5 between Brasil Ride Camp and Arraial d'Ajuda (134 km and 2,027 m altitude)
21/10 - Friday - Stage 6 in the XCO course in Arraial d'Ajuda (31.8 km and 548 m altitude)
22/10 - Saturday -Stage 7, the final race in Arraial d'Ajuda and Brasil Ride Marathon (75 km e 1.105 m altitude)

About Brasil Ride - Brasil Ride’s 7th edition will have 250 teams from 23 countries. Brasil Ride Marathon will mark as the opening event for the 2016 edition and will feature 1000 riders. The event is a UCI Class S1 race and champions for the Open and Ladies categories are awarded 120 points in the world rankings.

In 2015, 500 athletes from 23 countries competed in the 6th edition in the old Chapada Diamantina route. The opening event, the Marathon, had 600 bikers. Brasil Ride is made by Roma Comunicação and Instituto Brasil Ride.

Runners-up of the edition are Gustavo Xavier and Alex Malacarne, the best duo in the Americas. Among women, the Germans Naima Diesner and Anna Jördens won the fifth stage in a row and secured the title in Arraial d'Ajuda

Xavier and Malacarne completed the men's top 3, while the women's podium had Germany's Jördens and Diesner. Decision will be on Saturday morning, during the Discovery Marathon

Fifth stage was decided in the final sprint, with three teams fighting for the win. Rezende/Galinsi and Becking/Dias completed the top 3. Among the women, the Germans reduced the gap to 5 minutes behind the leaders, Marcella Toldi and Lutecia Azevedo

The fourth in seven stages was disputed this Wednesday morning in Guaratinga (BA), in the last day of camp. Next Thursday (11), the race has its longest stage, with more than 140 Km returing to Arraial d'Ajuda
