A day to change the race GC. That is how one can define the "Queen Stage" in Santander Brasil Ride Bahia, this Wednesday in Guaratinga, BA. After leading for two stages, Sherman Trezza and Lukas Kaufmann (Ciclogiro Scott/Hoffmann Pedal Sport Team) did not have a good day and saw their almost two-minute lead turn into a gap of eight minutes behind Hans Becking (NLD) and José Dias (POR) , winners of the day in 4:15:49, who recovered their yellow jersey.

With the heavy rains on Tuesday (9), the local climate changed a lot. The course was muddy and the heat was much less than the previous three days. A favorable stage for Europeans Hans and José to stand out and set their pace from start to finish, passing the competition in the first half, on the hard 8 km climb of Alto do Cariri National Park, and increasing their slack in the lead with each kilometer.

"It was a completely different 'Queen Stage' comparing with the last few years. I’m lucky I have a very strong partner, just like yesterday. José picked up the pace again, the whole race. He definitely deserves to be wearing the leader's shirt. I just had the job of staying on his wheel. It was a hard day for me. Tomorrow (Thursday) we will finally return to the beach", celebrated Hans Becking.

"We knew that it would be a new 'Queen Stage', with a very hard climb in the middle of the stage. And we were aware that this was the day to retrieve the yellow shirt. We chose to set the pace from the start, which would be our strategy to ensure victory. Luckily we did it after a hard and difficult day. I hope that all cyclists manage to complete this stage, due to all its difficulty, that everything goes well and tomorrow we return to the beach", evaluated José. "It was very difficult to get to the top of Alto do Cariri Park, but there the view was extremely beautiful and rewarding," he added.

Germans reduce difference in women’s elite - The fourth stage of Santander Brasil Ride Bahia was very positive for the German cyclists Naima Diesner and Anna Jördens (9th Wave Cycling Doctore Bike). Diesner and Jördens managed to reduce the gap behind leaders Marcella Toldi and Lutecia Azevedo (4Fun Bike Center Team) from 34 to 16 minutes, finishing 18 minutes ahead of the opponents. Diesner and Jördens finished the course in 5h37min48, against 5h55min51 by the Brazilian women.

"It was a really cool stage, with a very technical climb. At one point it was quite hot, so we tried to hydrate ourselves well. We pushed a lot, we suffered together, so it was great. Now it’s time to rest, we need to eat well and prepare for stage 5", said Diesner. "At first I didn't feel well, because it was hot, although not like the days before. It was only on the third feed zone, where I had some Coca Cola, that I started to feel well From there, we pushed all the way to the end," commented Jördens.
