The third stage of Santander Brasil Ride Bahia was marked by two unprecedented victories in the edition and also in the career of the winning duos of the men’s and women’s elites. Among men, Gustavo Xavier and Alex Malacarne (Specialized Racing BR Team) won a stage for the first time in their first year, being the youngest duo to win a stage of the competition. In the women's category, another team that had never won stages, the Germans Naima Diesner and Anna Jördens (9th Wave Cycling Doctore Bike Team), was the fastest of the day.

On the course today, the traditional ascent of the "Seven Turns", which until the last edition was carried out in the fourth stage. Thus, the riders who started at 8:30 am from the camp, in Guaratinga, had 58.7 km ahead of them, with 1,350 meters of accumulated climbing. Despite not being the protagonists from the start, Xavier and Malacarne won at the finish line, racing against Sherman Trezza and Lukas Kaufmann (Ciclogiro Scott/Hoffmann Pedal Sport Team), in 2:30:10. In the dispute for the yellow jersey, Brazilians Sherman Trezza and Lukas Kaufmann had a positive stage, managing to increase the gap in the lead. For Hans Becking and José Dias, the certainty that they gave their best for the day.

Victory for the Germans in the women's elite - After a day of overcoming difficulties, this Tuesday (9), the Germans Naima and Anna secured their first victory in the competition. The duo won among women with a time of 3h26min39, reducing the gap from leaders Marcella Toldi and Lutecia Azevedo (4Fun Bike Center Team), who completed it in 3h31min20, almost five minutes behind the stage winners.

"This stage was so cool. Climbs with a wonderful view. In the last 10 km it started raining, so it was perfect. We arrived here refreshed. The curious thing about the day was that the sun only disappeared when we reached the top. And then I thought 'right now?' But in the final kilometers were really great to ride in the rain, a really fun part of the ride," Anna said.

"I already knew the climb from other editions, so I knew what we had ahead of us. We did very well on the climb, watching the pace because it was so hot. In the final kilometers, the rain poured, and we went at a strong pace. It was slippery so we controlled ourselves as much as possible. I could not wear my glasses because they were muddy like in the movies," recalled Naima.

Mario Roma's debut in the marathon - With Tiago Ferreira’s partner withdrawal, Mario Roma, the founder of Santander Brasil Ride Bahia, had an excellent idea: to ride alongside the world champion and two-time European champion. Mario and Tiago started in last place, surpassing more than 150 teams, to be the 43rd to cross the finish line of the stage.

"Unique and mind-blowing experience. To be able to ride with a person like this, is incredible, unique. It was amazing to see the way he manages to ride alongside a cyclist who is weaker than him, and get the most out of that person. I beat all my lifetime PRs. It was impressive. He's fantastic, as a person, as an athlete. He is clever. He is no ordinary guy," said Roma.

"Super fun stage with Mario. It was really funny from the start. We passed a lot of people, all of them in a good mood and chatting with us. It was spectacular. In the end, some rain to cool off. Tomorrow we are riding again, one more stage", said Ferreira.
