Due to the growing number of COVID-19 cases across the country in 2021, Brasil Ride’s Organization, along with the municipality, decided to postpone the new stage race of the Tour Brasil Ride. Initially scheduled for the beginning of March, with a five-day mountain biking event in Conceição de Mato Dentro (MG), Brasil Ride Espinhaço will be held between May 4-8.

"The postponement of Brasil Ride Espinhaço was not what I would like to do, but it is necessary due to the situation we are experiencing. The Covid numbers are very close to those of the first wave, almost a year ago. Today we know better how to deal with the situation, we started vaccinations in the country, so I believe that in the next 100 days we will have a better scenario", declares Mario Roma, founder of Brasil Ride.

"Together with the Municipality of Conceição de Mato Dentro, and the Brazilian Cycling Confederation (CBC), we requested a new date to the UCI (Union Cycliste Internationale), since it is part of the international calendar. I believe that at the beginning of May we will have a much safer situation for athletes, staff and local people, so that we can carry out the event and everyone can have fun on the amazing trails of Serra do Espinhaço", adds Mario Roma.

Brasil Ride Espinhaço will have five stages, totaling approximately 290km and 9,100m of climbing. On the first day, May 4, starting and finishing in Conceição do Mato Dentro, 84.4km with 2,531m climbing. Second day, 45km and 1,384m climbing, while in the third stage, 78km and 2,510m climbing. The fourth will be the XCO, on a 7.8km trail, totaling 31.6km and 1,040m climbing. The decisive stage, on May 8th, will also hold the Cipó Marathon, with 42km and 1,605m total climbing.

A ultramarathon Stage Race that debuts as an official event in the calendar of the International Cycling Union (UCI), with over 140 thousand reais for athletes, the largest cash prize in the history of Brazilian cycling. Offering 150 world ranking points to elite winners, it will be a race with quick stages, at a strategically important moment for high performance cyclists.

Aiming at professional and amateur cyclists alike, Brasil Ride Espinhaço will have a total of 12 categories: Open, Women, Mixed, Master, Grandmaster and Corporate. Besides these categories, there are six special awards: "American Jersey for Men", "American Jersey for Women", "Nelore", "Iron Rider", "Guarini" and "E-MTB", in the first assisted mountain biking ultaramarathon in the Americas.
