Living the great moment in his career, cyclist Henrique Avancini will this week deliver his post of Cross-Country Marathon (XCM) World Champion, as he will not compete in the 2019 edition of the event, next Sunday (22), in Switzerland. Even so, what he has done and achieved in recent years, placing the Brazilian flag on the podium of the main events in the world, already accredits him as one of the biggest names in the history of national mountain biking. Perhaps the biggest. His rise in sports had a huge contribution from Brasil Ride, the main MTB ultramarathon in the Americas, won by him three times - 2013, 2017 and 2018.

Avancini has gone through several situations at the event. In 2012 did not get the finisher t-shirt, ending its participation after the third stage. The following year, he was an unprecedented champion alongside Sherman Trezza, his great companion at the beginning of his career. In 2014 and 2015, both won by Hans Becking (NED) and Jiri Novak (CZE), he was champion of the Americas, along with Sherman and Wolfgang Olsen, respectively. In the year of the Rio de Janeiro Olympics, a different experience, as host of the live broadcasts of Brasil Ride, a pioneer in the country. Last year, he took second championship with Jiri in the retirement of the Czech. And in the ninth edition, a special title with Manuel Fumic (GER), his teammate a few seasons ago, and his partner in 2019.

"One of the most important things that Brasil Ride brought to our country was the reach of the sport outside our niche, which contributed to take the sport outside our walls. This was a great achievement in which Brasil Ride was a pioneer. Moreover, speaking specifically from the professional cyclist's point of view, there has always been a very strong effort by the organization to bring in strong names from abroad to compete in Brazil," said Avancini, world number 2 and top 3 in the 2019 season World Cup.

"This exchange was very important for my development as an athlete, because I have always had at least one opportunity a year in Brasil Ride to compare and compete with European athletes within my playing field, the environment that I dominated and I knew it. The chance to be local against big names in the world MTB. This made me gain a lot of confidence, especially after my first victory in 2013. It was a big milestone in my career, in a matter of confidence of what I could do against foreign athletes ", adds the Brazilian.

Considered the Giro d'Italia of Mountain Biking, the ultramarathon scheduled for October 20-26 offers a strong challenge for 570 participating athletes from around the world. For seven days, they face about 600 km and almost 11,000 m of accumulated altitude, between trails and dirt roads that connect Arraial d'Ajuda, in Porto Seguro, to Brasil Ride Village, built annually in Guaratinga. On the last day of the competition, Saturday (26), more than 1,500 cyclists from all over the country join the stars of the international mountain bike, for the Marathon of the Discoveries race. A unique opportunity to ride and see the world's best mountain bikers in action.
